10 Writs Filed in Supreme Court Challenging TikTok Ban: Preliminary Hearing Commences Today

The Supreme Court is set to hear the petitions challenging the ban imposed on TikTok, with a preliminary hearing scheduled to commence today. Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi and others filed the writs, and the court has prioritized their examination.

A total of 10 writ petitions have been submitted to the Supreme Court, contesting the government's decision to ban TikTok in Nepal.

The decision to ban TikTok was reached during a Cabinet meeting on November 27. The government cited concerns about the disruption of social harmony, a high number of offenses against public etiquette, and TikTok's alleged lack of cooperation in addressing and reducing crime associated with the platform.

The writ petitions seek the annulment of the government's decision. After the decision, the majority of internet service providers in Nepal suspended access to TikTok.
